The SDG Secretariat is pleased to announce that the SDG Public Forum which was originally planned for December 2021 but had to be rescheduled due to the Government travel restrictions connected with Omicron virus, will now take place on 22nd and 23rd of March 2022. International participants, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Senate President Vicente Sotto III , House Speaker Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco and Mayor Francisco "Isko" Domagoso of City of Manila as host will address it online. Civil Society leaders in Education, Communications, Culture, Science and Sports will be present as Interactive Commentators headed by Philippine Normal University President, Dr. Bert J. Tuga cross posted in its campuses in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao with delayed posting in International Theater Institute World Theater Week Celebration and among Media Partners, IBC 13, Manila Bulletin and DZRH Radyo Balintataw. We extended our invitation to all interested parties to join us online on the zoom on March 22-23, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Manila time
The first activity of the Manila SDG event was ASEAN Art camp which celebrates the use of visual art in strengthening peace, and contributing to the protection of environment. The event started with messages from Foreign Minister of Andorra, H.E. Maria Ubach Font and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Diplomacy, Mrs. Hedva Ser, also Policy Advisory Board member of SSCC. here then followed ASEAN Art Camp under the guidance of celebrated Philippine painter Nemesio Nemi Miranda.
Following the four workshops and ASEAN Art Camp, the Manila SDG event organized a session on connectivity between Latin America (through Ecuador) and Asia (through Philippines). The session consisted from messages from Rear Admiral Brumel Vazquez Bermudez, Chief of Navy of Ecuador, and H.E. Ivonne A Baki, the Ambassador of Ecuador to the United States, as well as presentation of the Chancellor of the Universidad del Pacifico, Sonia Roca. Following the presentation, there also followed demonstration of “musica llanera” from Colombian artist, Jahir Rivera, youth Ambassador of SSCC and member of board of the Colombian Centre of ITI.

Hedva Ser is a UNESCO Artist for Peace, painter, sculptor, born in Petah-Tikva, Israel. She is of a French nationality. She is a contemporary artist, known for her sculptures, watercolors, tapestries, and jewelry since 1993. Her work experiments with balance, imbalance and, above all, energy.
Artists from the Philippines will also participate
Manila SDG Festival, Forum and Workshop owes it origin to the long standing efforts of Earthsavers Dream Center, UNESCO Artist for Peace, under Cecile Alvarez, but established by the late Senator and secretary Heherson Álvarez, to harness the power of art as a tool for peace and climate justice. In 2018, Mrs. Álvarez, organized under patronage of UNESCO and with support of the Senate and the Head of State, the 2018 forum to create the so-called Peace Movement: “Not by Force but by Art”. This was itself preceded by the 2017 Manila Declaration the Philippine Roadmap for the Paris Accord, held on 29-31 May.
These Manila events laid foundation for the Cartagena Declaration on Art as a tool for Peace and Afro Caribbean Integration which was adopted at the Conference organized by Earthsavers’ principal partner, South-South Cooperation Council in November 2018.
Manila SDG event also showcases the effort of organizers to join the Resiliart Movement launched by UNESCO Director General, Mme. Audrey Azoulay.
Finally, the Manila event is also a contribution to the vision of a world post covid, positioning culture as a “Vaccine against Pandemic”.
